Literacy:

The ability to read, write, and speak in English, and compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function on the job and in society, achieve one's goals, and develop one's knowledge and potential.

Our dream and vision for Flint and Genesee County, is to see a community where low literacy is no longer a barrier, and all residents are able to read. To to see this vision realized, the Literacy Network serves a strategic investment that maximizes funders' dollars towards accomplishing this goal. As a community, the only way to bring our continuum to life – for all residents – is to align as a collective force and make Literacy for Life a central priority.  We want residents to be prepared for kindergarten, to excel in school throughout grades K-12, to have options and support for any post-secondary path they choose, and to have secure jobs that pay a living wage as adults!

With this in mind, the Flint and Genesee Literacy Network asks for donations from all stakeholders who wish to see a clear and measurable increase  in literacy rates and positive outcomes. We believe that our commitments to alignment and collaboration increases the impact of all of our funders' contributions, and decreases competition for limited resources. Our strategy has already shown to be highly effective, as the Campaign for Grade Level Reading has recognized the Literacy Network as a national pacesetter three years in a row; however, for our continued success, we require constant financial support and community involvement.
